CFD SOFTWARE SIMULATIONS FOR THE REACTOR SAFETY IN NUCLEAR PLANTS
Safety in nuclear installations is of the highest priority in
their exploitation lifetime, maintenance and decommissioning.
A number of accidents with large consequences happened and
this requires more scientific and engineering measures to be
taken. In the years, nuclear safety “elaborated” tools in help of
safety assessment and methods like PSA. Thermal hydraulic
analyses are main tool in safety justification, providing safety
procedures and new systems design. Apart from the so called
“international practice” in nuclear safety number of initiating
events and phenomena are identified as requiring different and
more science substantiated methods and tools for analyses.
Computational fluid dynamics is identified as suitable tool
available and the only one that can give reliable solution of
safety aspects regarding three-dimensional processes. The
presented idea is an example of application of CFD code and
specific problems in assessment of FloEFD  to be in use in
nuclear safety field.
