Frequently asked questions - HAYCAD INFOTECH - Engineering and business solutions

Frequently asked questions

Dassault Systemes has invested considerable resource in developing an on-line solution for
product lifecycle management applications (PLM). It delivers the benefits of reducing the
need for IT infrastructure, eg servers, storage, etc and the reduction to zero of any
implementation costs.
  •  A full collaborative framework, or next generation PLM solution is hosted and
delivered out of the box, On-Cloud.
  • True concurrent engineering, i.e. real time design collaboration capability
  • More than 87% of Dassault’s exhaustive design and engineering portfolio is now
available On Cloud
  • Digital manufacturing and production solutions are available
  • Simulation solutions are available
The On-Cloud 3DEXPERIENCE platform has an embedded data management capability,
meaning you don’t need to worry about files, naming conventions or directory structures
as you would with a conventional CATIA V5, SolidWorks on Inventor solution. All
information, both CAD and anything else you create and store, e.g. documents,
specifications etc. are stored in a database in one location on your Cloud presence. This
delivers a “single source of truth” i.e. a repository where all information is kept.
Yes. On-Cloud out of the box you get the ability to give different users, different access
rights to projects and hence information. With suitable rights these users then can control
the state of any document from inception to release, allowing only those that are
authorized to view or edit the information.
Yes. Again, out of the box the On-Cloud solution lets you create your custom workflow, for
release control for example, which can manage the review and release of any information,
whether it is CAD or any other document format.
Provided you have sufficient bandwidth you can access your On- Cloud solution anywhere,
anytime
A lot of our clients do have an IT infrastructure, but an On-Cloud solution delivers more
flexibility for their PLM solution e.g. connection to their supply chain, need for new
applications, or starting a new innovative process. Further, it delivers a reduced total cost
of ownership (TCO) by taking advantage of the back-end storage and backup
infrastructure. It also brings them flexibility and the opportunity to always benefit from
best-so-far IT infrastructure (Some customers also need to quickly deploy infrastructure for
dedicated time-limited projects (such as research or marketing). They can take advantage
of CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE on the cloud’s rapid and simple deployment, keeping on premise
installation for “business as usual” activities.
In common with other companies who provide cloud-based solutions, Dassault Systèmes
offers a rental business model. This business model provides flexibility to customers,
enabling them to adapt their level of expense to their actual needs both in expanding and
contracting according to their needs. Haycad Infotech is an accredited partner of
Dassault Systèmes where you can consult on your needs and purchase the On-Cloud solution.
No. The rental charge includes any service pack releases and upgrades throughout the
term of the rental period. These upgrades are completed by Dassault during the periodic
maintenance downtime. There are no charges for these.
There is a TSC (Term Service Charge) business model wherein 3 or 5 year terms are
purchased. Further a PSC option (Primary Service Charge) offers a similar license model as
conventional software purchase. Under standard accounting rules, companies have the
flexibility to treat the TSC or PSC as capital expenditure.
Previous investments are always respected, and migration paths from V5 to Dassault On
Cloud solution are already available. Call Desktop Engineering for details.
Your previous purchases are respected and a migration to the On-Cloud offering is a good
method to get the latest capabilities of CATIA, without paying heavy back maintenance
charges.
Yes, additional seats can be added at any time. Further, any app can be rented short term,
a quarter at a time, for specific solutions e.g. simulation.
Very. Small clients on project related activities sometime need to almost stop using the
software whilst they go into prototype production or move to other projects. The On-Cloud
rental option allows you to reduce your expense to a small retainer, without the use of any
apps, in order that your data is stored and secure until you need to reactivate your CATIA
On-Cloud activities. An alternative would be to backup data locally as 3DXML.
Yes. There is a option for a 3-month trial of any configuration of the software, which can be used for
commercial activity. There is a small charge for this option. We require that you have some
level of training beforehand in order that you can derive the full benefit of the apps.
Someone with previous CATIA experience would need 2 days of transition training;
someone with no experience 4 days.
Desktop Engineering provides a hot line support service for all customers using On-Cloud
solutions. Web screen sharing tools let us uncover your problem, and demonstrate
solutions live.
Dassault Systèmes manages the upward migration automatically during this release
migration period.
Haycad Academy is a learning platform, created by Haycad Infotech specialists, which offers different types of training aimed at developing new skills and competencies in current and future engineers. For up-to-date information on trainings, visit the Haycad Academy website: https://haycad-academy.bg/
Prior to availability of the new release, customers are notified via email and through the
support communities. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform update (data, licenses), is done
automatically. The customer just has to update the Apps and/or the 3DEXPERIENCE
Launcher installed on his client machines.
No. All data On-Cloud is securely backed-up up by the Dassault cloud server providers. This
is the advantage of On-Cloud solutions, reducing your IT costs. However, if you wish 3D
Data can be extracted as 3DXML files at any time and these can be backed-up locally.
CATIA V5 native formats can be exchanged both in and out of the On-Cloud CATIA
platform. It is also possible through 3DXML export/import or STEP from other CAD
applications such as SolidWorks, SolidEdge, or Inventor.
3DEXPERIENCE Platform can be distributed on a Private Cloud with a minimum of 50 users
per environment.
Emails are sent to Administrators of all cloud environments notifying when the
maintenance and upgrades will be performed. These are usually at weekends.
After placing an order on Desktop Engineering it takes up to 24 hours for the order to be
processed through Dassault following which you get an email with an invitation to click on
a hyperlink to initiate your Cloud presence. Click on the link and then it takes 20 minutes
for you to be up and running. Delivered on your machine is all the capabilities of CATIA,
together with the collaborative framework to manage, share and control data across your
enterprise, both internal and external.
Dassault Systèmes have contracts with two major providers of this kind of IAAS:
OUTSCALE and AMAZON WEB SERVICES.
Like any other companies which provide cloud-based solutions, we provide
a subscription-based model. The reason is simple to understand as the
service delivered encompasses many items such as access to a sophisticated
IT environment, automatic upgrades, storage capacity embedded with all
necessary licenses. As technology evolves and as the customers usage does
too over time, automatic adjustments are being made which are transparent to
the user. There is then no notion of ownership of any of the elements provided
in the solution which, for all that relates to IT infrastructure, Dassault
Systèmes also subscribes to and does not own. This business model provides
flexibility to our customers, enabling them to adapt their level of expense to
their actual needs, and to grow smoothly and transparently
DS always respects the investment of its customers, and migration paths
from V6 to R2015x are available. To manage the change, we offer migration
paths, depending on the existing customer inventory, in order to ensure a
smooth transition.
Reminder: DS standard T&Cs clearly state that YLC and/or YSC (Yearly
License Charge and/or Yearly Service Charge) is for a whole year. Dassault
Systèmes shall seek for solutions to accommodate the specific needs of
customers on case by case basis.
Yes, additional users can be subscribed and DS will make sure the cloud
infrastructure scales up accordingly.
The web-based applications will work fine but the rich-apps (ex: CATIA…)
does not currently.
Other CAD formats can be imported and converted through dedicated
converters which are available on the cloud.
Some academic institutions do have an IT infrastructure and IT teams to
support large users base, but they often need more flexibility and ease of use
(connection to other institutions, home office for students and educators…). It
also brings the opportunity to always benefit from best-so-far IT infrastructure
(Middleware and hardware). All in all, when you add-up all hidden costs for
running your own environment (servers, disk space, network, maintenance, IT
resources to install and maintain etc…), you will realize that going on the
cloud might be a good financial deal.
One institution will host the project and uses their own licenses to invite
external participants (whether they are on the cloud or not). The packaging
supports that approach.
One week prior to the migration, you will receive an email from
support.cloud@3ds.com which will detail the maintenance operations hours. A
post will also be published on the online SwYm community:
https://swym.3ds.com/#community:715
Hardware and software prerequisites are detailed there:
http://www.3ds.com/support/need-help/cloud-onboarding/
Network recommendations depend on each customer’s usage and particularly
on the number of users accessing the 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the cloud.
The 3DEXPERIENCE On the Cloud requires a connection to the server
mainly when opening or saving data, or when collaborating with peers. A DSL
connection is enough to address most pedagogical scenarios.
Yes. In R2015x the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is available in English,
German, French, Japanese, and Chinese.
Collaboration is at the heart of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. The
administrator can invite any user on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. The
invited users simply have to create a DS Passport and join the team.
When a license is consumed by a user, it is consumed for a minimum of 30
days and cannot be re-assigned to another user during that period. However,
the administrator may recycle the license immediately after the period of 30
days is over.

Prior to the General Availability of the new release, institution contacts are
notified by email and through the support communities. The 3DEXPERIENCE
platform update (data, licenses, P&O), is done automatically. Customers just
have to update the Apps installed on their client machines.
In theory, you don’t need to because you’re using a cloud infrastructure
with history management. However, 3D Data can be extracted as 3DXML files
at any time and these can be backed-up locally.
CATIA V5/V6 native formats can be exchanged. It is also possible through
3DXML export/import or STEP.

This is a perfect opportunity for your company to leverage the power of the Project Manager tool. With this tool, you can create dependencies between tasks within a project, or dependencies between tasks that belong to different projects. You also can create a hierarchical structure that contains many projects within a top project.

It is common for multiple projects to have identical tasks. Many times, projects that are done by different teams across an organization are identical as well. In these cases, companies can save tremendous amounts of repetitive work by grouping identical tasks or projects into common ‘buckets’ so that they can all be handled in one instance.
A vast majority of tasks and dependency links are imported. However, there are some objects that need to be fixed. A few of those are listed below. This is not an exhaustive list.

1.Resources – A resource that is defined in Microsoft Project may not be defined on the platform. In such cases, it is not possible to import those resources.
Special characters – Microsoft Projects lets users create objects with special characters such as “ ; , - ETC. They cannot be imported.
Task Summaries – These are groups of tasks under an umbrella. They are similar to Phases in the  2. Project in DPM. These task summaries cannot be imported as is.
3. Custom Fields – Any custom field that has been defined in Microsoft project cannot be imported.
4.Task Colors – When MS projects are imported, they will not retain the colors that differentiated them.
Yes. Project Manager lets you schedule all tasks based on either the starting date or the end date.
Absolutely! It is a great practice to create templates from past projects and initiate new projects from those templates. This makes the process of starting new projects very efficient based on past lessons learned.
Only those who are project leaders or resource managers need to have a Project Manager license. All other project stakeholders can leverage the power of the Industry Innovator (CSV)role to work on tasks assigned to them.

What's the difference between Upgrade and Update?
Each year, we make improvements on your 3DEXPERIENCE platform. We talk about upgrade and updates, but what is the difference between them?

Upgrades
A software upgrade is a new version of the platform that offers a significant change or improvement over your current version. At the end of each year, we perform an upgrade.

Updates
In software terms, an update is meant to correct small bugs to make platform more efficient.
In general, we perform about 4 updates within a year.
